"There is a New Message from God in the world," proclaims a new religious movement with original teachings about aliens from a so-called Messenger, Marshall Vian Summers. Those who support this claim--that the content is "a communication from the Creator of all life"--are known as the Worldwide Community [of the New Message from God], with representatives in 106 countries and translations in 23 languages.

History

The leading figure in the New Message from God, Marshall Vian Summers, reports a formative and disturbing period characterized by communication with what he apprehended as representatives from numinous realms. Summers tells that in 1982 he felt compelled to go into the desert where he was instructed simply to "record." So using modern communications skills and technology he has archived and shared the result of what he portrays as his voice combining with others not of Earth. He asserts, as an individual and through his combined "Voice" with unseen entities--designated as "the Angelic Presence that watches over this world" --that the ongoing collaboration of voices, his and the otherworldly, is a continuous process of Revelation from God.Now "over the years ... one book became two, has become 10, has become 30."

Summers founded the New Knowledge Library in 1990 to publish his works and created The Society for the New Message from God in 1992 as the administrative body governing the oversight of his work and legacy, including communications with a slowly growing number of followers, around 1000 having registered for the Free School of the New Message from God, established in 2012.

Scriptures

Supporters attest the compiled recordings from the Voice of Marshall Vian Summers and his Unseen Ones constitute "the largest Revelation ever given to the world" and cite a page count upwards of nine thousand, available in print and online, with a large part yet unpublished.

Separate from the material considered divine Revelation though integral to the core concepts found in the New Message from God, the Briefings from the Allies of Humanity are presented as having been transmitted in a manner similar to the communication regarded as the Revelation from God, but from physical beings with mortal existence in time and space, in the vicinity of the solar system.

Tenets

Higher purpose and destiny in relationships

A core teaching in the New Message from God elevates the value of the individual with the idea that every person has been sent into the world to make s specific contribution and that unique relationships will enable the fulfillment of this purpose.

Commerce with extraterrestrial life

The perspective of the New Message from God presumes there is intelligent life in the universe and uses the term "emergence" to imply the idea of a particular and unique developmental milestone for humanity as a whole upon contact with extraterrestrial races. Singular to this perspective is the cautionary approach to extraterrestrial life, with comparisons to resource exploitation in conquest of native lands in human history, to the effect that any extraterrestrial presence on Earth today represents "visitation by a set of economic collectives here in our world to take advantage of humanity and gain access to the resources of Earth. This the Allies call the Intervention."

Mental environment

The teachings of New Message from God portray human intelligence as naive not only in exposure to extraterrestrials but also in comparison with the capabilities of other sentient races in terms of what is referred to as the mental environment, where motive and influence can be discerned with greater insight than is commonly utilized by humans. The teachings and the representatives of the New Message from God suggest the discernment needed can be learned through the practices they offer.

Evolution

Evolution is described in the New Message from God as operating on two levels, the spiritual and the physical, somewhat correlated but not to be confused. Spiritual evolution is understood as a function of the "Separation" from a former, timeless state of pure union with God through a trajectory of return, reuniting in service and shared contribution and reawakening of the essential connection to God within all sentient beings.

Divine Revelation through appointed "Messengers"

Reed Summers is the primary spokesperson for his father, the "Messenger for our time" with the New Message from God. In his own words:

"I’ve been witness to this quite mysterious and inexplicable process. It’s been a privilege to be a witness to it and to be there with my father as this Voice, this Angelic Voice continues to flow through him, speak through him, delivering these Teachings for the world."

"Yes, he was chosen beyond this life to come into the world to receive this Message."

"His body and his voice was being used, but the Presence speaking through him was not him. It was a Greater Power speaking through him in a voice that was not his, and yet using his body and his mind as vehicle."

"I certainly doubted it, oh for sure, no, no questions asked. I mean I was stunned and amazed and bewildered and confused at what was going on at the center of our family. You know, for your father to be enveloped in this process of receiving this communication for Earth. Why him? Why would you chose…? How can we trust this? How do we know it’s true? You know, these are the questions that all of us grappled with at some level. And yet I think it’s the experience actually of being at the center of my family, seeing who my father is, which is a tremendously grounded, respectful, compassionate, well-educated man who himself did not pursue any of this."

World in decline

The New Message from God alludes to the contemporary era as a time of "transition to a different kind of new world reality"; its proponents emphasize that while the current era is a time of ecological, social and political crisis, it is "not the end of times," rather a time when "cooperation and unity and compassion have got to be paramount."

Practices

Meditation, called "stillness practice," according to the devotional guide called Steps to Knowledge that encourages a centering pause at the top of every hour and longer periods of daily meditation and contemplation.

Organization and membership

The Society for the New Message from God is the organizational body established in 1992 to promote the New Message from God. Included among that body are 3 members of the founder's family, including his wife and his son who play vital roles as teachers and spokespersons for Marshall Vian Summers, whom they regard as the "Messenger." New Knowledge Library publishes the content of the New Message from God in book form.

There are no rites of initiation, only study and application of the texts (called "studenthood"), whether coordinated through the weekly gatherings of the Free School or independently; participation as a translator or other volunteer as for instance in "advocacy" (promotion of the New Message); attendance at the regular convention called the Encampment, a somewhat intimate meeting of a couple hundred participants or at annual "Vigils" broadcast online

Special terminology

Great Waves of Change: "Powerful environmental, economic and social forces now converging upon the world.... the result of humanity’s misuse and overuse of the world, its resources and its environment [with] the power to drastically alter the face of the world, producing economic instability, runaway climate change, violent weather and the loss of arable land and freshwater resources, threatening to produce a world condition of great difficulty and human suffering."

Greater Community: "All worlds in the universe where sentient life exists."

Knowledge: "The deeper spiritual mind and intelligence within each person."

Intervention: "Certain races from the Greater Community ... here to take advantage of a weak and divided humanity [the Intervention] presents itself as a benign and redeeming force while in reality its ultimate goal is to undermine human freedom and self-determination and take control of the world and its resources."

Messenger: "The one chosen, prepared and sent into the world by the Angelic Assembly to receive the New Message from God."

Separation: "The ongoing state and condition of being apart from God."
